Better Leisure Centres SEND Local Offer

Better leisure centres in Newcastle are great for anyone with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). There are activities for all ages and many needs and disabilities. This means everyone can have fun and be active.

Each leisure centre is fully accessible for wheelchair users. 

One-to-one swimming lessons

Better Leisure and Jesmond pool also offer one-to-one swimming lesson for young people with SEND. You can apply for support with cost of these lesson through the Access Fund. For lessons from September 2025 the application process will change. We will update this page as soon as we have the details.

  • Autism trampoline session - (bookable by messaging Awesometistic on Facebook)

How do I get my Max Card discount?

Simply show your Max Card when you visit the leisure centre and pay. Remember discounts are only available on certain days and times. Look at the table above to find out when these are. 

Unfortunately, it is not possible to do this online.

Children and young people with SEND can enjoy swimming at East End Pool. There are SEND swimming lessons led by a swimming coach. Or you can swim as a family during an inclusive swim.

SEND Trampoline Sessions @ Newcastle Trampoline Park

A dedicated trampoline session just for children and young people with SEND. Have fun bouncing around in a wide open space. Each paying ticket admits one carer free of charge.

SEN Table Tennis @ Walker Activity Dome

Every Tuesday is an SEN Table Tennis session for adults. Have fun playing alongside others and improving your table tennis skills. Walker Activity Dome has 7 professional tables that can be used.
