NHS Looked After Children’s Service

Newcastle NHS Trust has a service for looked after children.  

Children in care often have more health needs than other children. They may need extra support. The child will be seen by a doctor or nurse. This will happen soon after coming into care.

If they have no extra health needs, they will then be seen: 

• Every 6 months if 0 - 5 years old.
• Once a year from 5 years and older. 

They will have a health care plan detailing all their needs.

If they have additional health needs they will be referred to a specialist.
