Here are some of the groups and courses for parents and carers in Newcastle. If you see a course that feels right for you, please contact your nearest family hub or email your local team using the links below. They can tell you more and let you know the start dates.

Togetherness: Understanding your baby

A group for all parents and carers welcoming a new baby. Find out more about:

• How your baby’s brain develops and how you can support this.
• How you and your baby might feel and what can support you both.
• Ways to react to crying.
• How to help with healthy sleep patterns and responsive feeding.
• How play can help your baby’s development.

One session a week for 6 weeks.

Togetherness: Understanding your child

A group for parents and carers of children aged 9 months to 19 years. Find out more about:

• How our brains work at different times in our lives.
• What this means for how we think and express how we feel.
• Your child’s development and behaviour.
• How your child communicates.
• Why sometimes things go well and sometimes they don’t.

One session a week for 10 weeks. 

Incredible Years: Autism

A group for parents and carers who want help with their child’s behaviour and daily routines. The course talks about autism and speech delay. It gives easy ideas to support children aged 2 to 5.

Once a week for 14 weeks. 

Parenting when separated

For parents who are separated or thinking about separating.

All parents fall out sometimes - it's normal.
But when arguments happen a lot, get really stressful, or never get sorted out, things can feel tough for everyone.
This course is here to help, especially if you and your child’s other parent live in different homes.

What the course can help you with:

  • Feeling calmer and more confident as a parent
  • Looking after your own wellbeing
  • Working better together as co‑parents

The programme shares simple, positive steps you can take to help your children feel safe, supported, and able to thrive during your separation.
It’s all about making family life easier, happier, and more hopeful.

HENRY Programme

For parents and carers of children under 5. HENRY means Health, Exercise and Nutrition for the Really Young. HENRY can help you:

  • Be a more confident parent.
  • Have calmer mealtimes.
  • Help your child eat more fruit and vegetables.
  • Be more active as a family.
  • Help your child spend less time on screens.
  • Get ideas for daily routines.
  • Learn simple ways to manage everyday stress.

HENRY is a 2‑hour workshop or an 8‑week course.

Ways to Wellbeing

Workshops for parents and carers about children’s mental health and wellbeing. Topics include:

  • How the brain grows
  • Anxiety
  • School worries
  • What mental health means
  • Wellbeing and self‑care

Each workshop lasts one hour. They happen in different places across the city.

ROSES - Brighter Futures

A programme for the whole family. It helps parents and carers understand how domestic abuse can affect their children. The group looks at ways to support children with their feelings and behaviour.

It is for survivors and their children aged 5 to 16.

The group runs once a week for 8 weeks.

Early Words Together

For parents, carers and their 2-4 year olds.

For parents and carers of children who are 1 to 19 years old. Support and guidance around sleep issues.

A 2-hour workshop.

Decider Skills

This course will help you:

• Recognise your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
• Manage your emotions and mental health.

Once a week for 6 weeks

Little Minds in Mind

Little Minds in Mind is a service for parents and carers who want help bonding with their baby. You can get support during pregnancy or after your baby is born.
