These are some of the groups and courses for parents and carers in Newcastle. If you read about a course that sounds right for you, please contact your nearest family hub or email your locality using the links below. The team can give you more information, and let you know about start dates.

Solihull: Understanding your baby

A group for all parents and carers welcoming a new baby. Find out more about:

• How your baby’s brain develops and how you can support this.
• How you and your baby might feel and what can support you both.
• Ways to react to crying.
• How to help with healthy sleep patterns and responsive feeding.
• How play can help your baby’s development.

One session a week for 6 weeks.

Solihull: Understanding your child

A group for parents and carers of children aged 9 months to 19 years. Find out more about:

• How our brains work at different times in our lives.
• What this means for how we think and express how we feel.
• Your child’s development and behaviour.
• How your child communicates.
• Why sometimes things go well and sometimes they don’t.

One session a week for 10 weeks. 

Incredible Years: Autism

A group for parents and carers offering support and guidance about behaviour and routines. This course focuses on autism and speech delay for parents and carers of 2 to 5 year olds. 

Once a week for 14 weeks. 

Togetherness: Free online courses

Visit Togetherness  and enter the access code NEFAMILIES to explore online courses for free. Whatever stage you are at, from pregnancy to parenting teenagers, there is something for you. If you'd rather join a group to meet other parents and carers, get in touch with your local hub to see what's happening near you.

HENRY Programme

For parent and carers of children under 5 years old. HENRY stands for Health, Exercise and Nutrition for the Really Young. HENRY could help you:

•Be a more confident parent
•Reduce stress at meals.
•Help your child eat more fruit and vegetables.
•Be more active as a family.
•Help your child have less screen time.
•Get ideas to help with routines.
•Learn realistic strategies to reduce the everyday stresses of family life

HENRY is run as a 2 hour workshops or as an 8 week programme.

Ways to Wellbeing

Workshops for parents and carers about children’s mental health and wellbeing. Topics include:

  • Brain development
  • Anxiety
  • School avoidance
  • What is mental health
  • Wellbeing and self-care

Our workshops are one hour and are held across the city. 

ROSES – Brighter Futures (Formerly DARE - Domestic Abuse Recovery and Education)

This is a whole family recovery programme. It helps parents and carers understand how abuse affects their children. It looks at support with behaviours and emotions. It's aimed at survivors and their children (aged 5 to 16) who have been exposed to domestic abuse.

It runs once a week for 8 weeks.

Sleep Workshops

For parents and carers of children who are 1 to 19 years old. Support and guidance around sleep issues.

A 2-hour workshop.

Decider Skills

This course will help you:

• Recognise your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
• Manage your emotions and mental health.

Once a week for 6 weeks

Little Minds in Mind

Little Minds in Mind is a service for parents and caregivers who want support connecting and bonding with their baby.  This could be during pregnancy or after their baby is born.

Our start for life parenting support line is here for you Monday to Friday, 9am - 4.30pm. Our friendly family partners can answer lots of different parenting questions you might have from pregnancy to age two. Feeling low, struggling with sleep, trouble with tantrums? Give us a call.
