Evry Travel Scheme
Free travel scheme for Care Leavers and Young Carers
With Nexus and bus operators, the Young People’s transport scheme offers care experienced young people and young carers in Newcastle free travel across the region via metro, bus, ferry, and rail. Over 190 Care Leavers and 60 Young Carers are already benefiting from the transport scheme.
Young people have told us that travel costs have a significant impact on their wellbeing. This includes opportunities for education and employment. This also impacts their ability to socialise with family and friends.
The free travel scheme removes the travel cost barrier to these opportunities.
In addition, Nexus and bus operators announced new £1 single bus fare for all under 22’s, and free under 11’s travel over the summer.

“I have to travel for my job now, so the travel pass comes in really handy for getting the Metro. I didn’t know I was going to need it so much because a few weeks ago I was on universal credit so I was just using it to get to the job centre once a week but now its allowing me to get to work every day which I wouldn’t have been able to afford without it. A lot of young people need to travel and can struggle with the cost so this pass is perfect to give us more freedom.”
