Preparing for a healthy pregnancy

Planning to start a family can be an exciting time, but there might be things you are feeling nervous about too.  Please talk to your GP if you have any health concerns about your fertility, pre-existing health conditions or medication you are taking.

If you’re trying to get pregnant it’s important to take folic acid every day, eat a healthy diet, and don't drink alcohol. This will help your baby develop healthily.

Stop smoking support

Smoking in pregnancy can increase the chance of miscarriage, stillbirth and sudden infant death.

Children who live in a smoky house are at higher risk of breathing problems, asthma and allergies. Find out about our Stop Smoking + Service. You'll get your own stop smoking adviser and free or low cost stop smoking aids. You can also attend a drop in session near you.

It is important to look after your relationship when you are planning a big change. Find out about our Healthy Relationship Support
