Financial Support for Kinship Carers

You need to live in Newcastle or care for a child we placed with you.  If you get Kinship Allowance from another area, you cannot have both.

Kinship Foster Care Allowance  

If you are an approved Kinship Foster Carer you will receive a fostering allowance.  More information can be found on the Newcastle City Council Fostering page  

Max Cards

Max cards are available to Kinship Foster Carers.  Kinship carers of children with additional needs or disabilities can apply too. 

The Max Card offers some great savings at local and national attractions.  

Some venues offer free entry for Max Card holders.  Some attractions offer discounts on the entry charge.  You might get a discount in the café or gift shop too.   

If you are a Kinship Foster Carer, ask the child's social worker for a Max Card. 

For a disabled child or child with additional needs:

• The child must be registered on the Newcastle Disabled Child's Register here.
• A free Max Card will be sent to you once registered.
