Employability support from Year 9

Preparing a young person for work starts with increasing independence. This is why from nursery we:

  • use a support plan based on the child's needs
  • understand what matters to them
  • use short-term and long-term goals and aspirations.

From Year 9, there is an increased focus on employability. The table below shows the ways a young person can be prepared for employment.

Begin to think about a vocational profile that shows a student's: 

  • skills
  • abilities
  • interests
  • support needs 

Think about future options through the schools careers, education and guidance programme. 

Explore future options which may include:

  • vocational profile
  • planning work experience.

Arrange work experiences based on vocational interests.

Plan post 16 education or training. Look at providers that can deliver this.

Ensure support plan includes future aspirations.  

Consider: 

  • Further or higher education
  • Supported Internship
  • Apprenticeship
  • Supported Employment
  • Access to work support.
