Sixth forms

Sixth forms can be found in some secondary schools and colleges. They let young people study:

  • A-levels
  • T-levels
  • a vocational course

You can find details about these and other courses on further education courses.

Each of these courses have many different subjects choose from. It lets a young person study based on what they are interested in. 

You will need to visit the website of each sixth form to find out what subjects there are.

How do I apply to study at a sixth form? 

  • Research Options
    Look into local sixth forms or colleges to find one that offers the subjects and environment you're looking for.
  • Check Entry Requirements
    Each sixth form has its own GCSE grade requirements for different courses. Make sure you meet them.
  • Complete an Application Form
    Most sixth forms have online application forms on their websites. You’ll need to provide personal details, predicted grades, and your subject choices.
  • Write a Personal Statement (if required)
    Some sixth forms ask for a short statement explaining why you want to study there and your future goals.
  • Attend an Interview or Open Day
    You may be invited to an interview or encouraged to attend an open day to learn more about the sixth form.
  • Receive and Accept Your Offer
    If successful, you’ll receive a conditional offer based on your GCSE results. Accept the offer to secure your place.
