Vocational profile

A Vocational Profile is for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It is a document that provides an overview including:

  • individual skills
  • interests
  • preferences
  • support needs

Education providers and workplaces can look at a vocational profile. It can help them give the right support. 

Take a look at an example of a Supported Internship Vocational Profile and a School Vocational Profile.

A worksheet for people with communication needs. It asks what jobs a young person would be interested in after college.

What are the benefits of a Vocational Profile? 

It can help:

  • the young person understand and celebrate their skills and abilities with career planning
  • the young person make choices based on their preferred skills and interests
  • create a personalised approach to training, education and employment opportunities
  • with decision making
  • with setting realistic and achievable goals
  • providers supporting the young person work together (such as by making workplace adjustments or arranging additional training)

Who uses a Vocational Profile?

A Vocational Profile can be used by: 

  • mainstream and special schools
  • colleges
  • employers
  • support services
  • any other services that work with young people
