BFI Film Academy North East taster session

Come along if interested in filmmaking workshops. For disabled or neurodivergent young people and adults aged 16 to 19 (or 20 to 25 with an Education Health and Care Plan).

Professional filmmakers will support participants to script, shoot and edit their very own short film.

Participants can also watch their short film on the big screen with friends and family early next year.

No experience is needed. Just enthusiasm and a passion for film!

Workshops will happen every Saturday from 24th October 2026 to 12th December 2026

To be eligible, you must:

  • be aged 16 to 19 (or 20 to 25 with an EHCP or equivalent)
  • live in the North East of England
  • not be enrolled at a university when the course starts

To apply, anyone who is interested will need to book a place on one of our Taster & Application sessions on Saturday 10th October:

  • Session 1: 10.00am – 12.15pm
  • Session 2: 1.00pm – 3.15pm
