SEN support

On this page you can see our approach to SEN support.

Most children and young people will receive SEN support in a mainstream school. However, some may need more specialist support. 

Please know that support is reviewed regularly and changed to meet individual need.

  • Free access to a core offer from the Educational Psychology Service
  • General advice from SENDOS specialist teachers
  • School effectiveness team
  • Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Service
  • Post 16 networks

SEND Advice and Support Allocation Panel (SEND ASAP)

For students with moderate needs

  • Advice and support from SEND Outreach Service
  • Educational Psychology Service
  • Outreach teams from Newcastle Specialist Schools
  • Individual Pupil Support funding (IPS)
  • School effectiveness team
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Service 

Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) 

Not including pre-school and post-16 settings

For students with moderate to complex needs

  • Assessment and long term placements
  • Advice from ARP staff when visiting mainstream settings 

Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

Pre-school, school, and post-16 settings 

For students with moderate to complex needs

  • Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment
  • Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

Once all other support has been considered or explored.
