Applying for school

Applying for nursery places

You can apply for a nursery directly by speaking to the nursery. There is no link between children attending a specific nursery and getting a place in reception class. You can find out more about nursery places here

Applying for reception places

You must apply for a reception place through Newcastle City Council.

Getting ready to start school

All children develop at their own pace. So, when it’s time to start school, some children might need more help than others. You can support your child by helping them to learn some key skills before they start school. There’s lots you can do at home to build your child’s confidence and independence, helping them feel emotionally and practically prepared to start school.

Visit our early learning page or NHS Start for Life for activities to support your child's learning and development . You can talk to your child's school or your health visitor if you have any questions or want some advice. The Starting Reception website has lots of practical information that might help too.

Pre-school booster vaccinations

The 4-in-1 pre-school booster vaccine is offered to children when they are age 3 years and 4 months old. You should be contacted by your GP surgery when your child is due to have their vaccinations. You can also contact them to arrange an appointment.
