After your child receives an EHCP, it is important that it is reviewed. It is an opportunity to celebrate progress and make changes if needed. This ensures that the plan continues meeting your child’s needs.
Newcastle City Council and your child's school/setting will arrange and oversee the review.
Information from people supporting your child will be requested. Then a review meeting will be arranged.
The review will look at:
- progress towards outcomes
- whether outcomes and targets are still appropriate
- what changes need to be made

When does an EHCP review happen?
This will happen at least every 12 months.
If your child is aged 0-5, these reviews may happen every 3 to 6 months.
Very rarely, schools may call an interim or emergency review meeting. This must be agreed with Newcastle City Council.
Who is involved in an EHCP review?
The following people are invited to provide information and attend the review meeting:
- you (parents/carers)
- those from the school who know your child best
- your child’s SEND caseworker
- people involved in supporting your child’s health needs
- people involved in support your child’s social care needs
- anyone else who works closely with your child
Everyone must be given minimum to 2 weeks’ notice. This will give them enough time to prepare and send information.
The school is responsible for collecting this advice and information. They will then share this with everyone who is invited to attend.
