Children's Hearing Team

Referrals are only accepted from Health (Audiology and ENT Services). If you have any concerns regarding your child’s hearing please contact your health visitor, school nurse or GP first.

What do we do?

• Individual pupil profiles describing the hearing need, impact and strategies to help
• Functional assessment of hearing
• Language and communication assessment – standardised/non-standardised e.g. observations in class, use of developmental profiles.
• Assessment of social interaction with peer/adults
• Statutory assessment (The Code of Practice states EHC educational advice for a CYP who has vision or hearing needs, or both, must be provided from a QToD or QTVI)
• Acoustic evaluation of setting
• 1:1 direct teaching, pre/post tutoring of curriculum related concepts/vocabulary
• Support in class, small group work
• Audiological management, provision and checks of specialist equipment e.g. cochlear implants, hearing aids, radio aids
• Training and deaf awareness sessions
• Advice re inclusive practices, curriculum differentiation, lesson planning, resources, strategies and exam access arrangements
• Support for families
• Interagency liaison
• Attendance at reviews, TAC, CAF, LAC meetings
• Support the transition of young people to post 16 provision
• Sign language teaching and development
