Who can get SEND travel support?

Our SEND Travel Support service can help children and young people aged 5 to 16 who have a:

  • Special Educational need and Disability (SEND)
  • Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • disability or mobility problem (including temporary conditions)
  • short-term or long-term medical condition
  • placement at a special school which Newcastle City Council agreed is the closest setting to meet their needs
  • behavioural issue that makes traveling difficult, even when accompanied

In some cases, we can also support:

  • children under 5 with SEND who go to a specialist nursery at a primary school
  • young people aged 16 and over with SEND who are in specialist further education (such as specialist college or sixth-form)
Bus

Not all children with an EHCP or who attend a special school will need SEND travel assistance. Each child’s needs and situation are different. We will look at each child and application individually.
