Children and young people aged 5 to 16 are eligible for travel support if they have:
- a Special Educational need and Disability (SEND)
- an Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
- a disability or mobility problem (including temporary conditions)
- a short-term or long-term medical condition
- a placement at a special school which Newcastle City Council agreed is the closest setting to meet their needs
- a behavioural issue that makes traveling difficult, even when accompanied
In some cases, we can also support:
- children under 5 with SEND who go to a specialist nursery at a primary school
- young people aged 16 and over with SEND who are in specialist further education (such as specialist college or sixth-form)
Not all children with an EHCP or who attend a special school will need SEND travel assistance. Each child’s needs and situation are different. We will look at each child and application individually.
