With the right support in place, lots of young people with SEND can access mainstream activities. You can contact any providers directly to talk about your individual needs.
If a young person in your family has SEND, going out can take a bit more planning. From travel to finding toilets, there’s a lot to think about. Here are some tips to help make family outings easier, more enjoyable and more affordable.
🎟️ The Max Card gives free or cheaper access to lots of activities and attractions across the UK. It is for children and young people aged 17 and under, who have a disability. To apply for a Max Card, email disabled.childrens.register@newcastle.gov.uk.
🚌 You can find lots of support to help your family travel around and save money. From free travel to blue badge parking our travel discounts and support information has what you need.
🍿The CEA Card allows a carer to go free at participating cinemas when accompanying a child with additional needs. Most cinemas have relaxed screenings for neurodiverse audiences.
🌻 A Sunflower Lanyard is a discreet way to show that someone has a hidden disability. This helps staff at the venue you are visiting offer extra support and understanding.
🚻 Changing Places Toilets list places that have fully accessible toilets including hoists, adult-sized changing benches, and extra space.
🌳 A National Trust Essential Companion Card provides free entry for carers at National Trust sites.
