Between the age of two and two and a half, you'll have an appointment with the health visiting team. This appointment will be at a family hub or your home. This review looks at the health and development of your child and your family.
You'll talk about;
- Communication: the words your child is saying and how they understand instructions.
- Gross motor skills: big movements including walking, running and throwing a ball.
- Fine motor skills: careful hand movements including turning a page or picking up food.
- Problem solving: the way your child plays and how they try different ways to make something work.
- Personal and social skills: how your child plays alongside other children and is becoming more independent.
- Family life including sleep, toilet training, immunisations, healthy eating, physical activity, tooth brushing and more.
If your child is in a childcare setting, they might have a review at a similar age. Both reviews are important because they cover different topics.
Supporting your child
All children grow and develop differently. You might like to explore our groups and activities. They will all support your child's learning in different ways.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can call the health visiting team on 0191 282 3319. They can give you support and advice. They can also connect you to specialist services if that is what your child needs.
