SEND Voice Team

The SEND Youth Voice team helps young people with special needs get their voice heard. We listen to what they think should change to make things accessible for them. We do this by going to:

  • schools
  • colleges
  • community hubs
  • SEND events

Our team is led by Vicki and supported by Lucy and Daniel, who are our SEND Youth Voice Trainees.

What do SEND Youth Voice Trainees do?

We go with Vicki on visits to the places listed above. We take part in many different activities including:

  • doing projects with Independent Supported Living
  • helping with the Holiday Activity and Food Programme inspections
  • helping with the Youth Fund applications
  • going to and speaking at Evry events
  • being a part of the Youth Inspectors and Youth Fund.

Daniel

Hi my name is Daniel. My role is a SEND Youth Voice trainee. This role is visiting schools, communities, clubs and colleges and giving them information and support on what they need help with. The feedback we get back from the studies allows for us to make and help put some of these changes into place.

In my spare time I like to watch sports and tv shows/series. In particular darts and football stand out to me. I like watching the highs and lows of my football club. With TV series and films, I like action, thriller, adventure and horror. I like these because of all the fighting scenes. Also the action packed were they’re always up against something. And finally high octane keep you on the edge of the seat while the whole movie rolls out wondering what is going to happen next.

Lucy

Hello! My name is Lucy! I am 20 years old, and I have autism, and I recently became a Youth Voice Trainee. Our job is to help young people have their voices heard and take feedback on what young people want or what can be done better with community clubs or youth clubs.

I have four dogs and two cats! My favourite tv show now is Inside No.9. I also love The League of Gentleman, Gavin and Stacey, Ghosts (UK/US), Ted Lasso, Bluey, only murders in the building and I do enjoy the soaps sometimes. I collect Jellycats and Build a Bear. I want to get back into it more, but I love fiction writing. I do Dancing every Wednesday afternoons and I do performances with them! People in the dance groups all have a learning difficulty or disability or Down Syndrome. We have entered competitions, and we went to Birmingham in 2022 as we were one of the winners!
