What is the Youth Council?
The Youth Council gives local young people a voice by representing their views to decision-makers and campaigning on issues that matter to them. It also offers members the opportunity to stand for election to the UK Youth Parliament, ensuring their perspectives are heard at a national level.
How to join
Newcastle Youth Parliament & Youth Council Elections Expression of Interest 2026 If you're aged 11–17 and live, study or work in Newcastle, we’d love to hear from you! What you need to know:
- Elections will take place in March 2026
- Young people across the city will vote for their favourite candidates — over 7,000 votes were cast last time
- Youth Parliament has 4 seats (2 Members and 2 Deputies). They focus on national issues, debate in the House of Commons, and you can also be part of Youth Council if you choose to stand for both
- Youth Council has 12 seats and focuses on citywide issues like vaping, mental health, and parks
- If you're not elected, there are still lots of ways to get involved — from helping shape Youth Council decisions to attending social events. It’s a great way to meet new people and boost your CV
