The Role of AI in the EHCP Process

  • Supporting, not replacing, professional judgement
AI may be used to assist with task-based activities, such as structuring documents and summarising information already provided. It does not replace professional assessment, analysis, decision making, or accountability.
  • Human led decision making
All EHCP content remains the responsibility of the case worker writing that plan. AI outputs are reviewed, edited, and approved by staff before being shared or finalised.
  • Improving consistency and efficiency
Used appropriately, AI can help improve consistency in structure and language, reduce duplication, and support more timely completion of plans — enabling staff to focus on quality, and outcomes for children and young people.
