Breastfeeding social groups

Breastfeeding social groups are a great way to meet other breastfeeding mums.  Handy tips and support are available from a member of staff or a volunteer. Follow Breastfeeding Mams Newcastle on Facebook, or find the next breastfeeding group here.

0 to 1 Infant feeding drop in

Come along and chat to a Health Visitor about breastfeeding, bottle feeding and weaning from pregnancy until your baby turns one. No booking required, but call the health visiting team on 0191 282 3319 to confirm times. 

Tuesday, The Haven, Kenton

Wednesday, Health Resource Centre, Benwell

Thursday,  Charlton Street Hub

Friday,  St Martin's Centre

Breastfeeding support appointments

The health visiting team have appointments available to support you, Tuesday - Friday. Call the health visiting team on 0191 282 3319 to book an appointment. 

Infant feeding team

The infant feeding team is a service run by Newcastle Hospitals and can offer support when feeding your baby. 

Speak to your midwife or call your health visitor 0191 282 3319 if you feel that an assessment or appointment would be helpful. Visit the NHS website for information about common breastfeeding problems.  

Starting solids or weaning

Your baby will be ready to start trying solid food when they are around 6 months old. The NHS Start for Life website has lots of useful information about weaning, and meal ideas

Healthy start: Get help to buy food and milk

If you are pregnant, or have children under the age of 4, you could be entitled to help to buy healthy food and milk. 

Find out if you are eligible and how to apply on the NHS healthy start website.   Or you can contact your midwife or health visitor or local hub for more information. 

Dad Tips!

However your baby is being fed, you can get involved. If mum is breastfeeding, you can support her by bringing water, snacks, extra pillows or just keeping her company. When baby is fed, you can burp and settle baby, or maybe it's playtime. Did you know that because men play and interact differently, you're teaching your baby different skills.
