Newcastle Career and Guidance Team for Young People
Schools and colleges have a duty to provide careers advice, including for post 16 students. Please speak to school or college for further information.
Newcastle Careers Team provides independent, impartial and confidential careers information, advice and guidance (CIAG) to support young people in making informed decisions about their education, training and career pathways.
Qualified Careers Advisers work with young people to help them identify their strengths, interests and aspirations, enabling them to make successful transitions into further learning, training or employment.
Support includes:
- one-to-one careers guidance interviews.
- advice on post-16 and post-18 progression options, including sixth forms, colleges, universities, apprenticeships, supported internships, employment and vocational training
- support with career planning, decision-making and goal setting.
- information on local learning opportunities, apprenticeships, training and employment vacancies.
- advice and practical support with job searching, CV writing, application forms, personal statements and interview preparation.
- guidance for young people who are considering changing or leaving their current education, employment or training programme.
- information on personal development opportunities and programmes that support progression and employability.
- signposting and referrals to specialist services where additional support is required.
Each Newcastle school is linked with a dedicated Careers Adviser who works closely with the school to support young people. Young people who have left school, are at risk of becoming Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET), or who require additional support with progression can also access careers guidance directly through the service.
