SEND Information, Advice and Support Services

Newcastle SENDIASS

Newcastle SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) provides information, advice and support at any stage of a child or young person’s education. This is a free, impartial, and confidential service.

They provide information, advice and support to:

  • parents and carers of children with SEND.
  • children and young people with SEND up to the age of 25 years.

SENDIASS specialise in education matters but can also support with social care and health issues that impact on the child or young person’s ability to access education.

Support is tailored to the individual service user, with the aim to build on that individual’s skills, knowledge, and confidence to promote independence and self-advocacy. To access the service, simply call or email and a member of the team will be able to help you.

Children and young people can access information, advice and support about their special educational needs independently from their parents/carers. In Newcastle SENDIASS, there is a dedicated worker for children and young people who holds information and advice clinics in schools and post-16 settings across the city. If your child or young person would like to speak to somebody about their needs, their support, their life, or their future, they can either access a clinic in their setting, or email or text the number below, and a suitable place to meet and have a chat will be arranged.

Newcastle Carers

If you’re caring for someone in Newcastle who cannot manage without your help and support due to an illness, disability, mental health problem or addiction – and you’re not employed to do this – you are a carer.

Anyone can become a carer. Sometimes it’s overnight, through sudden illness or injury, or it can be a gradual process as someone’s health deteriorates. It can be a lifetime commitment.

This service is for carers of all ages, including young carers. They provide individual and group support for young carers, as well as advice for their family.

Newcastle Carers is here to provide free, confidential, and non-judgemental information, advice, and support, helping you find ways to make your caring situation easier to manage.

To talk to someone in person about your caring role, drop in to Newcastle Carers Centre in Byker every weekday. You can talk with a worker one-on-one about any concerns you might have about caring. We also work in different venues around the city, where you can make an appointment to talk to a worker.

To talk to someone about your caring role, call our Carers Information Line on weekdays: Monday from 9am to 5pm, Tuesday from 1pm to 5pm, and Wednesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. We’re here to listen and support you.
