Adult Social Care helps people who have care needs to stay independent, safe, and well. This includes people with physical health conditions, disabilities, neurodiversity, or mental health issues. We also help carers.
Getting the right support at the right time means people can plan ahead and make choices that are right for themselves. People can start this conversation with Adult Social Care Point at Newcastle City Council.
There are a range of professionals within Adult Social Care including social workers, social care assessment officers, contact officers, occupational therapists, and moving and handling coordinators. There are also a range of in-house support services, such as reablement and resource centres for people with physical and mental health/dementia issues.
If people require further assessment or overview of their care needs, there are several specialist teams:
Keeping adults safe: Safeguarding Adults is about protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. They work together with people and organisations to stop abuse and neglect happening. There is a Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub which triages all safeguarding referrals where there is no allocated social worker. They work with partners to share information and devise risk management plans.
The service can provide information, advice and support to reduce or delay the need for long term social care support, but cannot provide support for people who do not have an eligible social care need as defined by the Care Act 2014.
