What is EOTAS?

Education Other Than at School (EOTAS) is education delivered outside a school when no school, mainstream or specialist, can meet your child's needs.

It is used only in exceptional circumstances and must be agreed by Newcastle City Council. EOTAS may be agreed when:

  • a child cannot attend school due to complex needs
  • the provision required in Section F of their EHCP cannot be delivered in any school
  • a child’s mental health, sensory needs, or other significant barriers mean a school environment is not appropriate

EOTAS can include:

  • home tuition
  • online schooling
  • therapies
  • specialist interventions
  • community‑based learning
