Providers, Drivers and Passenger Assistants
- To show respect and kindness to everyone, forming positive relationships with all stake holders.
- Have high expectations of all students and staff, and a belief that all students matter and will be supported equally.
- Have clear, consistent routines and systems. The comfort and safety of all passengers is essential at all times.
- No eating, drinking or smoking/vaping will be allowed on vehicles by either driver/escort or students.
- To develop empathy with students so they understand why people behave the way they do in certain situations. All adults should look for signs of developing incidents or behaviour/play likely to cause an accident and take preventative measures.
- To understand that behaviour is sometimes a form of communication of an emotional need (whether conscious or unconscious).
- To prioritise de-escalating incidents, using non-judgemental language when responding to behaviour incidents.
- Staff should keep a behaviour log for students whose behaviour is causing concern frequently. These must be sent as soon as possible to the SEND Transport Team.
- Staff have the right to inform the SEND Transport Team if the student is dysregulated which could cause safety concerns for the journey, from both home and school. The SEND Transport Team will then make an informed decision as to whether travel can commence.

- Monitoring the conduct of students whilst on the vehicle and maintaining appropriate levels of behaviour.

- To maintain good relationships with the SEND Transport Team and work together collaboratively.
- Maintain positive open communications about any difficulties or problems that they are experiencing which may affect their child/ren on transport, thus enabling the SEND Transport team to be proactive in early intervention.
- Responsibility for their child/ren’s behaviour while accessing SEND Transport lies with parent/carer.
- Will ensure their child is regulated before boarding transport, if this is not possible parent/carer will need to make their own arrangements for transport for the journey.
- Parents will become responsible for transporting their own child/ren during any period of exclusion from transport.

- Supporting the SEND Transport Team, schools and operators in applying our Policy and Guidelines.
- Supporting a positive resolution where there are problems on school transport which include their child(ren), e.g. attending school meetings, etc.
- Ensuring that their child(ren) conduct themselves in accordance with the expectations of the school and our Policy and Guidelines. This may include meeting with the school to discuss problems and in some cases, entering into a voluntary agreement between them, the school and the child, to manage the situation positively.
- Acting as a good role model to their child/ren and encourage good positive behaviour.
- Ensuring they have communicated through the ‘meet and great’ their child/ren’s specific needs. If applicable, ensuring driver and escort have been given their child’s SEND Travel Passport.

- When transport is withdrawn, responsible for making alternate transport arrangements and a Personal Travel Budget be received when paperwork is returned.

- To make ‘good’ choices.
- To think about the impact of what they say and do to others.
- No eating, drinking (unless an agreed risk assessment is in place to meet the needs of the student), or smoking/vaping will be allowed on vehicles.
- Behaviour that may affect the concentration of the driver or disrupt the other students on the vehicle will not be tolerated.
- Students being transported will be expected to follow the same behaviour codes as they do when in school.
- Unacceptable behaviour will be monitored and may result in exclusion from transport.
- For the duration of travel students must remain seated and with their seatbelt applied.
