Risk Assessment Process

The risk assessment process is used as a starting point for minimising harm for identified vulnerable young people. It identifies what is likely to cause stress to them, using all the information known about them. Information will be collected by communicating with all available groups (parents/carers; school staff; providers; social care team; healthcare professionals). Once all this information is collated, a strategy for supporting a situation appropriately and keeping everyone safe can be developed.

Possible solutions to reduce risk could be:

  • To discuss with all relevant parties (student; parent/carer; school staff) to help develop self-regulation strategies.
  • For parent/carer or school to provide distraction items such as fidget toys.
  • SEND Transport to provide extra safety equipment such as seatbelt buckle guard or seat harness.
  • Increase escort ratio where appropriate.
  • Change to transport route or vehicle.
