Behaviour Expectations on Transport
Harm from dysregulated (stress) behaviour, SEND Transport always prioritises the safety and welfare of all staff and students, recognising that everyone is entitled to a safe and supportive environment. Any incident (verbal or physical) which compromises safety can be perceived as harmful (see Appendix 3). Our staff understand through training that this behaviour is not necessarily deliberate, rather it is often due to a stress response. We expect everyone to maintain the highest standards of personal conduct, to accept responsibility for their behaviour and encourage others to do the same.
When students fail to comply with the behaviour policy the following behaviour procedure steps will be followed by all staff (see Appendix 1)
All staff will share the same understanding of the requirements of this policy and apply it consistently. Fairness and consistency must be seen to apply in praising/rewarding good behaviours and addressing undesirable behaviours (see Appendix 2). Amendments and adaptations may be made to the application of the steps above for students who have a specific Behaviour Plans or an EHCP. External agencies may be asked for advice and support re-assessment and behaviour management strategies. Extreme cases may result in a student being excluded from transport.
Every effort will be made to retain students on transport but if persistent unacceptable behaviour continues, or extreme incidents occur, despite support, strategies and intervention measures, then this will result in the student’s exclusion from transport and a Personal Travel Budget offered (see Appendix 3).
There are 15 DfE exclusion codes that can be used to record why a student is excluded:
